6. Will we as a group have a free day or down time day at the end of the trip?

10. You made mention of packets, VCD’s, and literature that we will be handing out. Will we get these packets pre-made upon our arrival or do we need to make them here and bring them with us? Also, please let us know exactly what will be in these packets so that we can review the material.

Question 1: What can we expect our working days to consist of, how many? (top)

After you have been able to provide a full flight itinerary, and a list of the those who are participating I will send you a “suggested” schedule. There are several distribution sorties available. We will be able to discuss how much work your team will be doing at length after the schedule is published. But, a rule of thumb is 5 work days per week, no more than two sorties per day and plenty of time for rest.

Question 2: What will our times of work look like, hours during the day? (top)

We will be sending you a schedule in advance so you will know what the team will be doing from day to day. The schedule will include distribution work, work at the SCP warehouse, worship times, team times, etc. Distribution sorties are either in the morning, afternoon or in the evenings and are different lengths of time. The main one is in the evening at the pier and it can last up to six hours. After you receive the schedule you can ask us questions, or ask for changes to be made no problem.

Question 3: What locations will we possibly be working at? (top)

There are several tourist venues we use. We try to track and find where the most Chinese tourists are at a given time of year. Right now we are primarily using one or two spots downtown, then lobby ministry at the hotel where your team will be staying (if you choose the hotel option).

Question 4: Will there be coed or couple evangelism, or will it be man sharing with man, woman sharing with woman. What will the Thai’s most readily accept? (top)

Please let me help you re-think how this ministry works. This ministry is a mass evangelism project seeking to distribute large numbers of evangelistic materials in pre-prepared packets to groups of Chinese people as they pass by our teams on their way to their hotels or buses. With seven or eight on a team, three or four need to be assigned to do cover prayer during the distribution sortie and the other four or five will actually be doing the distribution. Your team will travel to sortie venues each day, or be involved in lobby ministry at the hotel where you are staying. This work is done using the entire team, not by splitting off and sharing one on one. There can be opportunities for one on one sharing during the time the team is doing lobby ministry though, so, just stay flexible.

Question 5: Where will be staying: Name, Address, Phone #, and how far is it from the actual location where we will be working? (top)

Right now we have four places. Three are hotels and the other is a Conference Center. The selection is normally made by me based on strategic factors and team size. This is only done if there are no budget constraints limiting where your team can stay. I will help you though this choice. And, if you have not already received the logistical information (SCP Follow-up Letter #2) please ask me for it. It has all the important details about lodging, as well as ground transportation and other “nuts and bolts” information.

Question 6: Will we as a group have a free day or down time day at the end of the trip? (top)

YES! And, it’s your choice if your team is here for seven days or more. This is a really fun day at a local island with water sports and relaxation on the beach. My wife (Tan) handles the arrangements for all of the "free day" activities and it can be taken care of after you arrive. So, please tell your team to look forward to that, and we'll let you set that up with Tan after you get here.

Question 7: What tools do we need to bring? (top)

I would say if someone is leading worship they would probably want to bring a guitar. We have a nominally good guitar and/or an electronic keyboard that your team can borrow. Other than that each member should bring their Bible, and if you are doing any formal studies as a team together you would probably want that to continue through your time here, if not that's ok. Other than that no other tools are needed.

Question 8: We have read that dresses and long pants are polite, what do you recommend we wear to have the best influence both during ministry/distribution and “free” times? (top)

The context we are working in is basically conservative as far as dress is concerned, BUT, this is a resort town. So, normal shorts, blouses and shirts with sleeves and or t-shirts are fine. I wear shorts to my knees, t-shirts, polo's and flip flops all the time here. The one exception is when I go to church, then I wear long pants and a collared short sleeved shirt. Normal conservative Christian summer clothing is perfect for this ministry. And, please, no short shorts or tank tops need to be brought on the trip. Thanks.

Question 9: Is facial hair acceptable, or do the guys need to be clean shaven’ and are women expected to wear their hair up or down…what is best and why? (top)

No, women should not wear beards - HA! Sorry, couldn't pass that up. In many Asian cultures men with beards and/or mustaches are considered "the bad guy" in their folklore. That is true is this culture. It's ok for foreigners to have facial hair, locals recognize we are foreigners, but, if the folks on your team want to be culturally sensitive then it would be better for the men on your team not to have facial hair. As far as the ladies are concerned there are no restrictions or expectations concerning hair. Your ladies may want to wear their hair up just because it's so hot and humid here, but, that is a personal choice they can make.

Question 10: You made mention of packets, VCD’s, and literature that we will be handing out. Will we get these packets pre-made upon our arrival or do we need to make them here and bring them with us? Also, please let us know exactly what will be in these packets so that we can review the material. (top)

The packets, assembled here in Thailand, your team will be passing out contain: Either a Jesus Film VCD or Who Is Jesus VCD, a follow up VCD concerning what to do after one becomes a follower of Jesus, two tracts (Blessing and Four Spiritual Laws), and follow up information. There is also a booklet with includes things from Chinese language, history and folklore that point to the Living God and a book entitled "God and the Atheist." I would say your team can become familiar with the materials after they get here, no problem.
